World War Two AU- TWIST

"I think you mean you never knew who you were." Mik corrected her as eh removed his hand. "And for the record, no. You are not evil. Not unless you've killed some babies and have forgot to mention? No?" he raised an eyebrow when she simply stared. "There are angels and demons, opposites. Then there are humans and devils. Also opposites. But lesser so."

“I don’t understand.” She said simply, her blue eyes finally raising to look at his. If possible they seemed even larger, a deeper blue then before. They could have sucked you in with the depth they had, sucked you in and never let go.

Mik pulled a slip of paper off the desk as well as a pencil. "Works like this..." he said and began to write.

"Angels are on one far side... Demons are on the other...."

"Then there are humans and devils; the inbetweens." he stated.

He showed her the slip. "That's how our worlds are set up. You aren't innately 'evil'." he informed her.

She looked at the paper, and reached down, part of her clothes slipping without her notice. Touching it lightly, she tried to understand what he was saying. Like humans, devils had a choice of their actions? Evil or good? She much preferred that option she had to admit. Not that she was some goody girl. She just didn’t like the idea of her not having a choice in what happened to her and what she did.

“So what am I then?” She asked, her voice much calmer now.

"... Neutral?" he supplied. "Oh, you mean race." he blinked. "I would say Eldranian." he stated. "Most nobels are."

“Nobles?” She said confused. Nobles didn’t really exist anymore for humans. Of course there were the royal families in some countries, but for the most part if you were the son of some guy named Duke it didn’t really mean much. Obviously to Mik however, it did mean something.

“Are nobles…important?” She asked.

He nodded taking a seat. "Nobels rule our world. I told you I was a General." he reminded her. "I serve the Eastern Eihtha Family. The only reason I'm here is because I'm supposed to be finding a run away traitor. You just so happened to be lucky enough to stumble upon me."

“If I’m supposed to be so important, how did I end up here?” She asked, skepticism written across her face. That was the big one for her that she kept coming back to her. How in hell did she end up amongst humans her entire life if she was supposed to be some noble? For that matter who was her real family. This was terribly complicated.

"I think one of two ways." he said. "Most likely was that you were sold on the black market. A nursemaid stole you away and brought your here for the right price." he shrugged. "Or, you were brought here on purpose for some reason."

She simply nodded, deciding that was enough information for the night. She was exhausted, and her mind was reeling from everything that was happening. She glanced up at the clock to see that only thirty minutes had passed. Had it really been such a short time?

Slowly she tried to stand, only to fall back and into Mik as the added weight on her back now made it very difficult for the exhausted girl to balance properly. Pushing herself off of him, and attempting to stand again she muttered her apologies, finding it terribly difficult to hold her clothes on and steady herself at the same time.

"You're going to walk around with those things out for a while, arent you?" he teased watching her mover her wings in an attempt to balance. He glanced behind him at his bed and sighed. "Get some sleep." he said. "In the morning, I'm leaving to New Burnshwick." he told her. "I'll wake you up when it's time to go."

She looked at him and simply nodded, knowing that if anything she needed to sleep. How she was going to get comfortable with two huge black wings sticking out of her back she wasn’t sure, but she was going to try. Shakily she sunk onto his bunk and laid down. Within moments she was asleep, one of her wings folding around naturally as protection of her sleeping form.

All that was left now was the question of what the hell was to happen to her now?

Mik sighed, rubbing his temples. This girl was going to land him in prison, he just knew it.

He haddn't bothered to mention he was an EX-General... Regardless, he left the room, locking it behind him as he set off, putting his hat back on and setting his jaw. First, he needed cloths for her. Then, he needed to arrange to have the automobile ready.

The rest of the night passed swiftly for her and she woke the next morning to see Mik lying on the floor, a thin blanket wrapped around him. She felt bad for a moment before the feeling passed and she stood. She felt much better now that she’d slept, though she was still hungry as hell. Looking over she saw a dress, she supposed was meant for her.

Reaching up she felt her black feathers and sighed in content. It felt right, having them there. And yet, she knew she needed to hide them somehow. But how? She didn’t want to rely on Mik for everything so she didn’t want to ask him. If she was really some noble, she figured she should be able to figure this out herself.

Looking deep inside herself she felt something, something different, that hadn’t been there before. ‘I need to hide my wings.’ she thought desperately. Suddenly she could feel them receding in a way, hiding from common view. She could still feel them, and yet she knew without a doubt that others would not be able to.

Standing up she reached for the dress and changed, caring little about modesty now. Lucky for her he slept through the entire thing. When he finally did awake it was to find her dressed and ready to go, and apparently human looking except for her snow white hair.

"Well, gutten morgan to you too." Mik mumbled sitting up. He remained seated for a moment before standing, stretching out his long legs. his head was just narrowly under the height of the ceiling. He noticed immediately the absence of her wings. "Nice glamor." he complimented, getting ready himself. "Put that coat on." he instructed. "And if you can, imagine your hair blond as opposed to white."

He was tieing his boots, his large hands seeming to have a slightly hard time finessing with such a simple task.

Madeline, if she could even truly call herself that anymore, nodded, focusing hard on her hair. She was able to darken it a bit but not all that much. People would still stare oddly at her when they saw it. But most of her concentration was on keeping her large wings hidden, which would be much more of a dead giveaway.

Picking up the coat she quickly pulled it on, wishing that it was a cloak instead so that she’d have a hood to hide her head with.

He sighed and stood up, havining finished tieing his boots. "Alright, come on." he said sighing. He lead her outside, speaking with a guard as he went in German as he walked. He took the keys form the much smaller mans hand and grabbed Madeline around the waist, steering her close to his side to the artillery jeep that was waiting.

"Ladies first." he hoisted her in, waiting for her to slide over before climbing in himself.

She slid in easily, avoiding looking directly at anyone so they wouldn’t sense anything odd about her. She doubted it would be very easy getting out of there if the guards for some reason grew wary of her. From what she’d seen in her time at the camp, the pets never left. Just were used and abused until they weren’t wanted anymore, then they were left to die. She’d heard plenty of the stories. Thus, she didn’t think having anyone question who she was would be a good thing.

When the jeep was finally underway she relaxed a bit, though she was still silent as a house in December.

"Happy birthday by the way." Mik said as he drove. He never did like the quiet.

He glanced over as he turned left, headed onto a dirt path and off the road. "You should smile. You're about to enter an entirely new life. Most likely one that's much more enjoyable."

Madeline looked over at him and cocked her head, confusion on her features.

“I’ve never smiled.” She said simply, turning away again to look out the window. It wasn’t that life had been that difficult for Madeline. In fact compared to some children she’d had it much better than others. Except of course for not having any friends and ending up in a concentration camp of course, she’d had a loving family who kept a roof over her head and food in her belly. What more could she have asked for?

"Well, you should try to get one in." he encouraged. "The trip back isn't exactly going to be quick. You might find yourself having fun."

Madeline kept her gaze on the landscapes going by, thinking about what he had said. The truth was she didn’t even know if she could smile. It wasn’t second nature to her like it was to others.

“So where are we going then?” She asked, curiosity lacing her voice. She wanted to get off the topic of smiling. It made her think of joy and happiness, things she’d seen but never felt herself.

'Well first, we need to get to where people won't be near by." he said. "The only portal I can still open leads to nowhere, so we'll be taking the jeep with us. It's got all the food and shelter we'll need, and plenty of gasoline to boot."

“The one you can still open?” She asked, the wording seeming odd to her. Wasn’t he some general or something? Why would he only be able to open one?

Madeline turned to look back at him, her blue eyes seemingly boring into his. There was definitely something off about this situation, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

"Portals aren't exactly open for common use. It's a big deal when one opens." he said. "Often times a lot of devils try to slip through them. So even as a high ranking officer, I only was granted to access to 4 in the world. Now, I have access to one. What with the war and all."

He didn't lie. He simply didn't tell the entire truth.
