Her voice surfaced him from his pensive state and he nodded at her observation. She'd need some rest but otherwise she'd be alright the sigils of course would hurt for a while as they'd been branded into the bones of her rib cage.

“Your working hour begins at eight, I suggest you rest while you can. I'll be occupied in the mean time with a certain meeting.”

Mercy glanced at Aziel and made a small nod of her head, "Well, go enjoy your meeting with the others Aziel. And don't worry, if I need you, I'll call" she said with a laugh as she pushed off the railing and moved back inside to get ready for her shift. Ordering herself some breakfast Mercy sat on a couch close to the balcony as she ate her breakfast, after a while Mercy left for work leaving Aziel at the hotel room.

Mercy hoped the sigil was going to work correctly, she didn't want it to just hide her from angels and not demons. Whilst she was at work Mercy's boss was insulting and being more rude then normal towards her just because he felt like it.

"What did you do to her?!"

Zachariah hissed the instant Aziel appeared in the white room. All the other angels were there too, but it wasn't Heaven—not really. Just a random room in a semi-empty building.

"Demons were targeting her. She wasn't safe, so I did what I could to ensure her safety," Aziel said, "She's branded with Enochian Sigils."

"Clever, but you've also hidden her from us."

"I'm to protect and guide her toward her fate. Those were Father's orders."

Zachariah smiled darkly, "I can have you reassigned you know? You're not to interfere with the original plans."

Aziel nodded slightly, "I'm fully aware of the plan, but you cannot re-assign me unless He decides it. Besides, she's my charge." He almost felt the edges of his lips flex into a half-grin.

"I think you're allowing human perceptions of 'emotion' to cloud your judgement Aziel, remember the warning on that?" His eyes glinted, "You like her...don't you?"

Aziel didn't flinch, "I'm only following my orders."

"Then do it right!" Zachariah demanded, "or else."

Aziel nodded as if he really gave a damn about Zacariah's threats. The rest of the meeting discussed the whereabouts of God and the restless activity of the main problem being Lucifer and keeping him in his cage. It seemed to have gone for hours, but merely a day in real time. When it was finally over, the angels dispersed.

Aziel appeared in an alley, close to the café, it was already dusk and the city was winding down after a long busy day. Walking out, he stopped when he reached it.

Mercy walked out of the cafe, her hair was still pulled up into a ponytail as she talked with one of the girls she worked it. Waving goodbye to the other girl Mercy held her left forearm a little, she had been grabbed tightly by a custmor and her boss had thankfully come to her rescue.

Spotting Aziel Mery smiled at him lightly as she moved closer to him, "So, how did the meeting go?" she asked with a small laugh as she reached up and untied her hair letting it spill down her back as she started walking. Mercy had a feeling they had been discussing her and she didn't want to know what plans they had in stall for her.

“Slow. Tedious.” Aziel wished he'd not attended it but then he wouldn't know what the angels were thinking. He had to stay on top of it all if he were to navigate through the uncharted waters. He had a charge to protect and lead. By lead meaning he'd clear the path so she could do her thing.

Was something irritating her skin? She rubbed at it a little too much, perhaps she's gotten an allergy yo something. He followed her back to the hotel.

Mercy made a small nod of her head as they walked, "It was...interesting. A customer got a little rough and I got invited to a ball" she said with a shrug of her shoulders. Mercy had brushed off the incident with the rough customer but it didn't stop the bruise from hurting, she had promised the other girls working there that she would ice the bruise as soon as she could.

"But I'm not sure If I'll go to the ball, seeing as I need a partner" Mercy added as they reached the hotel, giving a small smile at Aziel she walked inside and headed for the room they were staying in wondering to herself if she should go to the ball or just ignore the invite and pretend she couldn't attend.

“A ball is a sort of party isn't it. Then I'll be sure accompany you.”

He'd never escorted anyone to any sort of entertaining festivities, another entirely new scenario for him but he gathered it'd be fun. It's amazing how she's already adapted to her situation and has even forged connections. He'd ensure it stayed this way.

Mercy made a very small nod of her head, "It is like a party, apparently. But, I am not sure I will attend" she said calmly as she walked into the room. Walking into the bedroom Mercy set about having a shower, walking out of the bathroom in only a towel "Would you like anything from room service?" she asked as she kneeled on the floor comfortably her wet hair pulled over her left shoulder as she poised her had above the phone waiting to see if Aziel wanted anything.

Aziel started for the balcony and only hesitated whe she asked if he'd required service, he shook his head. “I'm alright, I don't need any sustenance. I'll wait for you.” He continued to the balcony.

Mercy frowned slightly at Aziel's words, he wanted her to go to the ball? That confused her slightly, shaking her head Mercy got to her feet and moved into the bedroom and got dressed in a pair of jeans, a simple shirt and a pair of boots. She wasn't going to go to the ball, "I just need to go somewhere for a moment, I will be back soon Aziel" Mercy called out calmly as she slipped out of the hotel room. The space between her shoulder blades was tight with the power other angel's gave off, it made her skin tingle and made her wish to fidget.

Leaving the hotel Mercy walked around slowly, she wanted to summon one of her fallen brothers to find out why there was so many angels around. Sighing softly Mercy glanced around a little as she slipped into an alleyway and crouched down in the shadows thinking of the ways she could summon one of her brothers without attracting too much attention from the angels she could feel around.

When Mercy stepped out donning casual attire Aziel frowned slightly, he hadn't known what to expect but it certainly wasn't this. So she refused to attend the ball and by the looks of it wouldn't be persuaded to go no matter what he said. She then announced some excuse that was urgent enough to require her engagement and simply left.

He followed after her, if she wanted to leave him than he would do the same. Not exactly depart from her side but make it so that she couldn't see or hear him. The ball should have been a distraction from the mediocre life they were living, a leisure of sort. She seemed to have adopted an alternate agenda. Was she planning on meeting one of their brothers or sisters? Did she possibly believe she could request her position back in heaven and they'd grant it?

Above the skies darkened, clouds thick and threatened to to burst. It hid the moon and engulfed the stars. Is he not enough for her? Is he that useless? He wanted thunder to strike everything, burn and destroy whatever it struck. The sensation built up in him like shock waves, manifested in the swirling horizon, a flash of lightning sparked and thunder clapped. His spine tingled with the thrill of adrenaline racing in his veins and soon enough, the bruised clouds erupted with sheets of rain that drenched him to the bone. He reveled in the icy downpour but it'd never be enough to cleanse his tainted flesh.

Thunder roared ferocious as though a beast had been woken from slumber—a maddening wave of frenzy and delight thrummed along his limbs. Rafael had wanted nothing to do with the heavenly host after it'd taken control where God had once been. He wanted power, order and no one else had the right to govern him or his judgment. He appeared in the form of a youth, a man who'd consented after several days of torture. The human will could only take so much pain before relinquishing whatever strength it possessed. Such limited and weak species, and yet only useful as mere containment to a higher form of being.

“Mercy the dishonored banished angel, why do I find you in these less than reputable side of town?” He spoke in a low baritone, his presence cloaked in the shadows, eyes gazing directly at her. “What is it you seek in your second chance of existence?”

Mercy stared at Rafael, "Brother, please I beg of you, take the remaining Grace I have left inside of me" she begged as she watched him with pleading eyes. " I don't want to spend the rest of this small existence looking over my shoulder for demons or those who were once my brothers and sisters who banished me to this life" Mercy said her eyes slowly filling with tears. She hoped he would do as she asked, it was such a simple request, albeit a painful one for her.

Furrowing her brow a little she looked down at the ground under her feet, "Brother, I need this. But I ask you not to take my memories of what my life once was. I don't want to forget someone in particular" Mercy added referring to not wanting to forget about Aziel and how important it was becoming to her to have him in her now human life. She didn't want to forget everything she had ever seen, the people she had seen. But the thought of him making her forget Aziel made her heart ache deeply.

Rafael remained still, allowing his sister to make clear her wish. She wanted him to take her Grace, sever her final connection to Heaven. Doing so would turn her human, make her even more vulnerable to demonic attacks, enrage her brothers and sisters for abandoning them and her home. Despite her apparent banishment, who's to say she couldn't win back the favor of the higher order? Who's to say she couldn't be granted her celestial grace in full?

"It is a new life you wish for, then I shall happily oblige." Rafael said, he approached her, "However with your Grace comes the existence of which it'd possessed." He didn't need to explain any further, she'd find out the moment she awoke. And he approached her, with a wicked smile and was about to wrap his fingers around her throat and absorb the remainder of her life sustaining grace, when his hand fell cleanly off his wrist. The limb dropped at the slick asphalt, fingers twitched.

Rafael stared at his wrist, celestial light flared up from the severed joint and blinding shocks of agony sizzled up his arm. "Ahh!" He staggered back, his eyes landed on Aziel who struck again. The length of the Celestial blade plunged into his rib, tearing his connection from the mortal plain. Light and powerful heat surged outward and his body tensed in complete shock. He cried out as fire roared through him until his visuals were white no more, but black. Gone.

Aziel slid the blade free from his brother's corpse. He stood over Rafael, stared the arc angel down, beneath the angel's lifeless form the imprint of his wings singed into the ground outstretched as though caught in flight. Never again. Blood stained his hand that curled about the weapon, he wiped the edge of the blade on Rafael's shirt before he rose, and held it out, aimed at her throat.

"You want to die?" Aziel hissed through clenched teeth. His entire body glowed in suppressed rage, illuminating the empty alley way, her. The chill of the rain a blessing against the intensity of heat pulsing from him on the verge of implosion. But how else was he to react? When the one he was supposed to protect kept slipping from his grasp? When no amount of his influence can be enough to save her? When always she kept running toward the danger.

"Is that what you've been striving for all this time?" The words thundered from him, left him empty. For the promise it'd shattered, the sorrow and stain that'd forever claim his existence. The weight of failure pressed against him like hands, his breaths sawed down his throat but that didn't matter. What good is a Seraph that can't complete his mission? What use can come of a broken soldier?

But what if it wasn't him, what if it was her? The thought crashed against him, made him shake. He swung the blade in a sideways arc, away from her, the power of the swing sliced a crescent jagged line across the building sending debris everywhere. The ground shook, the building groaned as its outer supports had been damaged. He flared his tainted wings, air currents cleared the area but none touched her, no damage would. But he wanted it to, deep inside he wanted her to suffer. Because that's what she was doing him.

"You want to die when you haven't given this life a chance." He couldn't move otherwise he'd lose control, beneath him the blacktop cracked and crumbled beneath the pounding of his manifested energies. "Do you think for a second that I'd stand by and watch him steal your life? Do you think I'd let you give up you stupid girl? How dare you insult me, how dare you betray me."

Mercy waited patiently, she knew what she was doing. She had assisted other angel's who had fallen in removing their last glimpse of Grace that still clung to them, when Rafael's hand fell from his wrist Mercy looked down at it before she took a step backwards when her eyes landed on Aziel. Watching as he killed their brother and than pointed his sword at her Mercy closed her eyes for a moment feeling her heart drop.

"Not die" she whispered to him. Opening her eyes she flinched a little when he swung his sword, the thought of the blade striking her didn't appeal in the slightest. Letting him say his piece Mercy didn't hesitate as she moved towards him, cupping the sides of his face Mercy studied his eyes for a moment before she crashed her lips against his.

Taking her lips from his after a moment Mercy let her hands fall from his face and she gave him a sad smile, "I don't want to die Aziel. I want to live without the constant weight of the Grace I have left within me. I know I will never be welcome back in heaven" Mercy said softly as she watched him closely, "So why shouldn't I live completely as a human?" she questioned. She highly doubted any of their other brothers and sisters would come if she called for them to take the rest of her Grace.

The warmth of her touch threatened to dismantle the fury that'd built up in him. He was struck by the beauty that was her eyes, how they held him still. The tip of the blade shook in his hold, he drew a shuddering breath before her lips pressed into his and his breath was stolen and his heart soared away.

When she parted, he took a step back the world around him tilted and he had to set his hand against the wall in order to keep vertical.

It took a while for his voice to return, long enough for her words to sink in.

"You'll die without your Grace, at least a fraction of it must remain within you. I won't allow it." He said breathless, "I'll smite whoever dares to try."

Closing her eyes with a sigh when he said that she would die without her Grace, "I have helped other brothers and sisters remove their last bits of Grace so they could be completely human" she said as she slowly opened her eyes and looked at him. She didn't know what she would do now that she knew she was going to have to continue to live with the fraction of Grace still inside of her.

"Why didn't they strip it all before casting me aside?" Mercy mainly asked herself as she watched him. Thinking over his words that he would smite whoever tried to take her Grace she gave him a small smile, "But what if I ask it of you at some point?" she questioned him. In her eyes if she asked him to do such a thing it would be a kind gesture towards her.

Mercy wasn't scared of ceasing to exist, but she didn't want to hurt Aziel by asking him for such a thing or asking someone else to do it.

"When you relinquish your Grace, you relinquish any hope of returning home." He stared at her with such intensity as though he could see through her. She ay be the only reason why he hadn't lost himself. "It means those of us remaining hold a shred of hope." He did as well, did she not see that? "It means you get a second chance." If she blew it up by relinquishing her only link home, he couldn't help her then. Nor would he volunteer if that were the case. Maybe there were wars and brethren among them who'd betray each other but he wanted to restore the peace and order that had once been. He wanted to fix all things broken.

He nodded, smiled a little. "When you get home, I'll be here. Searching for Father. Unless you'd like to join me." Better than being alone, he could trust her enough. "So, what are you gonna do then?"

Mercy shook her head a little sadly as she looked at him, "I'm never going to get a second chance. We both know that" she said softly. Running a hand through her hair she sighed as she continued to watch him,, her eyes roaming over his face taking in the details of his face. When he said that when she got home he would be there, hearing those words from him made her smile as her eyes glistened a little.

"I don't want to go home any more. When I was first cast down I did...now I don't want to. So, you'll be looking for father yourself I'm afraid" Mercy said before she leaned up and pressed a kiss to the corner of his mouth. Moving away from him Mercy took a few steps to leave the alleyway, looking back at him when he asked what she was going to do she shrugged her shoulders a little "Find a way to get rid of my Grace by myself without dying in the process".

"This is your second chance. Why do you think we're cast to earth and not purgatory or even hell? It means we have hope. It's a challenge down here because we were never meant to inhabit mortal vessels." Could she not see that? He caught her gaze, already giving up on even the slightest possibility? He shook his head, "Don't say that, you know how Father loves to make everything difficult. Have you not watched him, his trials and tribulations, the punition he lays on humans when they screw up, when their faith grows weary? You're not giving up on him, you're giving up on yourself, Mercy." Her kiss, it warmed his skin and like that of a butterfly touched and lifted off. He reached for her arm and gripped. "Your Grace can't be given, what's left of it anyway is the source of your life now. It's all we have left."

Mercy listened to him carefully and she shook her head a little, "This isn't a second chance. This is as bad as a purgatory" she said softly. When he gripped her arm she looked at him and sighed softly. Moving closer to him again she wrapped her arms around his neck lightly hugging him, "I'm willing to try and remove what is left of my Grace, even if it means I'll die. You're able to return home anytime you wish to, I'm not" Mercy said softly, leaning back a little she took her arms from around his neck and gently cupped his face with her hands "Give me one reason to stop trying to rid myself of what is left of my Grace. Just one reason."

He held her hands, just one reason? Why was she doing this? Why was she viewing life through a tunnel? Did she not believe in a better future? "You're wrong, Mercy. I can't go back, I don't want to. I don't think I truly ever would." He shook a little. "I'm asking you to live. Can you do that for me?" It wasn't up to him to find the reason for her. That was her own journey.

Mercy sighed a little when he said that sh was wrong and that he didn't want to go back home, looking down at the ground with her eyes closed for a moment her head jerked up when he asked her to live and to do it for him. Studying his face closely she thought over his words for a moment before she sighed and gave a small nod of her head "Okay. Okay I'll live" Mercy said softly.

Aziel stared, had she said this to appease him or did she truly mean it? In Heaven, lying wasn't a trait they were known for. However withholding information—No He had to trust her. No matter what they were in this same world now, together. "I want to trust your word, Mercy. But I am still uncertain." Where was she going? What would she do now?

Mercy gave Aziel a small smile when he said that he wanted trust her word but was unsure, "You've trusted me so far...why stop now?". Running a hand through her hair a little Mercy looked around a little taking in everything before she sighed softly to herself "I guess we better head back" she said softly talking about the two of them going back to her apartment.

Aziel reached for her hand, willing it to rid him of the chill lodged so deep into his bones he nearly shook. His wings unfurled with a sudden snap, rising over his head, shadowing them. He grasped for her arm and yanked until her body collided against him and he wrapped her in an embrace that, frankly, kept him standing. She had become something more than a lost soul requiring his guidance. She had become his. He didn't move, nor spoke. He merely held her closer, taking in the utter vibrance of life, full and igniting in his arms. A free spirit that although linked to their past, had every capability of cutting those links and turning away. Aziel exhaled a slow, weary breath. Who knew how long they could maintain this little frame, this little portrait each painted with broad strokes that no longer felt theirs. His vision tunnelled and yet his entire being expanded. He wanted more than this, was it so greedy to desire it? Filling all his fractured pieces with her? It was all she'd become at this point. He couldn't deny. "Let's go now." He whispered and with the flick of his wings, they soared.
